Clean Inbox

Mar. 1st, 2007 | 08:36 am

Yeah!  I Got someThing Done.  Hit select all twice.  Then archive.  Voilà, a clean inbox.  I've started to label things a little more and to throw away some old emails from mailing lists I never read.  I guess a next step would be to actually unsubscribe.  Anyway it's cool.  Now gmail notifier will say I have like 3 unread emails instead of 2000.  In other news, I've signed a one semester contract with Nanjing University of Finance and Economics.  I went to the Xian Ling campus yesterday.  I had to wait about 20 minutes for the bus.  Then 22 bus stops and one hour later I arrived at the school.  It was 8 bus stops and 30 minutes to my old job downtown.  Coming back home from Xian Ling took only 30 minutes.  I teach my first class there at 2 pm today.

stuck at guangzhou airport and afraid to go to the airport hotel

Feb. 22nd, 2007 | 07:03 pm

A Heng's plane was 5 hours late from Hanoi to GuangZhou.  She missed her connection.  She can't get another flight to Nanjing until 8 am.  A lot of other people missed connections.  All of the chairs in every lounge are taken and she's sitting on the floor.  She thinks she'll be sitting on the floor for the next 12 hours.  It's going home from Chinese New Year's time and China Southern Airlines is really terrible. They won't comp her a hotel room.  There's a $25 hotel near the airport.  They'll send a car or shuttle or whatever to pick her up.  But she's afraid that it'll be a trap and she'll be sold off into slavery and I won't know the real hotel name to tell the police even if there really is a hotel.  So she said she'd call her mother for advice.

Laid Back

Feb. 21st, 2007 | 05:17 pm
mood: Alone
music: Grateful Dead April 2, 1989

Kicking it at the pad this afternoon.  Brewing up some medicinal tea A Heng's mom threw down.  Listening to streaming Grateful Dead from archive.org.  Met a 14 yr. old kid yesterday down at the running track.  We went and climbed Purple Mountain this morning.  At seven we're heading down to Confuscious Temple to see the red lanterns.  It's five now.  Anyway it brought back nice memories of when I kicked it with older mentors like Roger Clay and Chris Cagle.  My Chinese is pretty bad so we didn't talk so much.  He kept telling me to slow down and be careful.  We had a nice climb up the mountain, then KFC for lunch.  Anyway A Heng isn't a big Dead Head so I'm enjoying the space out time.  Climbing the mountain today I really regretted that I bought a road bike for commuting speed instead of a mountain bike.  I've been living a mile away from some really passable mountain biking for two years and only biked there twice.  Lot's of mixed feelings about moving to Shang Hai.  It'll be nice, culture, art, symphony vs. I don't want to go, I'll probably spend more time on the bus to get anywhere.  A large crowded concrete jungle where my salary won't buy as much, and I'm leaving behind a mountain I never really took the chance to explore.

Java 1.3.1 and 1.4.2 Release 2Java 1.3.1 and 1.4.2 Release 2

Ahhh, 99.999% complete but I can't get my java updates from apple support or from software update to ever complete.  I think this is needed to make jUploadr 1.1.2 for zooomr work.  I put 400 pics from Vietnam on zooomr.

(Bob) Dylan's (got a) New Album

Sep. 6th, 2006 | 08:15 pm
location: on the floor in my apt in nanjing boiling sweet potatos
mood: hungryhungry
music: Bob Dylan: Modern Times, 2006

Amazon Dylan's got a new album out, of course you heard about it on VH1 or read it in Rolling Stone. Here's the torrent. I should have seen him at the OKC zoo on July 4, 2000. But I was in Mexico City on a rooftop with Traviss and Nash for some reason that evening. Here's my old post for Neil Young, Pauls Simon and McCartney. I tried to go get me some o them cheap dvds they gots here in China today. But it seems there has been a temporary crackdown, so I'll have to wait until October. I wanna pickup all the Simpsons for 75¢ per dvd. My time is currently valued at $18 /hr. but if I can get sb. to listen to some Dylan that seems worth my time.

My year old palm TE will not start up. When I turn it on I get the palm logo. I have tried a soft reset and all i get is the screen with the target to sync the stylus. I have not been able to perform a hard reset. I want to pull the cover off to check out the power switch because it's sticking. Any suggestions for repair? Any instructions for taking it apart?
