They won't comp her a hotel room. There's a $25 hotel near the airport. They'll send a car or shuttle or whatever to pick her up. But she's afraid that it'll be a trap and she'll be sold off into slavery and I won't know the real hotel name to tell the police even if there really is a hotel. So she said she'd call her mother for advice.

powered by performancing firefox

Here's my old post for Neil Young, Pauls Simon and McCartney. I tried to go get me some o them cheap dvds they gots here in China today. But it seems there has been a temporary crackdown, so I'll have to wait until October.
Totally Dead Tungsten E

I have a totally dead Tungsten E, I think it's related to these posts fromhttp://bitworking.org/news/Palm_Tungsten_E
http://bitworking.org/news/Palm_Tungsten_E
Posted by Frank on 2005-07-27
The power button does not work at all. I can press one of the other buttons and get in but cannot turn it off. I have to let it turn off after none use. Anyone else with this problem?
Posted by vis on 2005-05-24

My PLAM TUNGSTEN E does not turn on with any button. But however when I soft/hard reset it, it turn on then again turns off after about 5 secs. I tried connecting it to the wall charger but still it does not turn on. Any Ideas?

PALM gives only 3 months warranty on these what a shame for paying 200$ you just get 3 months? I would have not bought this if I knew about the low warranty period

Posted by bnbraj on 2005-06-23

Exactly same symptoms as bnbraj (2005-06-23). Yesterday my Tungsten E began turning itself off "automatically" following hard (pinhole) resets. The power button doesn't turn the machine on, but the reset button causes it to begin resetting. It stays on for a total of about five seconds, as bnbraj mentioned. This is enough time to show the "Palm Powered" and "Tungsten" startup screens and proceed to the stylus calibrating target screen before turning off. It turns off after approximately one second in the stylus targeting program. If I begin the stylus calibration procedure immediately, or if I exit this program, or if I push a button (Home, HotSynch, etc.), the machine behaves perfectly normally for about one second, then powers off. It is as if the "go to sleep" power off function were set to one second.

Here are more interesting wrinkles:

If I power off using the power button during the one second of normal operation, the machine turns off normally. I can then power on as usual with the power button; the machine starts where it left off in the stylus calibration program and operates normally for whatever is left of the one second, then shuts down. The power button becomes non-responsive again, and I am back to square one!

If I hold the power button in and hard reset, the machine stays at the "Palm Powered" screen until I release the power button, then prompts "Erase all data? / Yes='up button / No=any other button" Whichever option I choose, I still get about one second of normal operation before shutdown.

I would greatly appreciate any help or insight from anybody. I am freaked out not to have my trusty and heretofor durable E.

David

Posted by David Barbour on 2005-06-27

Possible solution to problem with Tungsten E:

Following up my previous post, I did some more research online, tried a few suggestions, and came up with something that makes me hopeful that the problem is fixed (time will tell if it is permanent.)

The problem, again, was that my Tungsten E would not turn on with the power button, and would stay on for only about five seconds after a hard reset. Nothing I tried altered this fundamental behavior until I tried the following:

1. Power adapter plugged in.

2. Hold in power button and perform hard (pinhole) reset. Release power button.

Message appears telling you that your battery is dead and that you need to charge it for several hours. With the power adapter connected, the on/off switch now works normally, and you can begin to restore your system or whatever.
--------
anyway my power button hadn't been working for 6 months and it had always needed a really strong press to turn it on or off, but i could turn it on by the big button on the 5 way navigator. or any of the 4 hard program launch buttons,
but after the g/f took the T|E on vacation, no dice, after charging over night I could soft reset with the pin hole (can't hard reset b/c the top power button isn't functional) and got 3-5 seconds of activity as described above, i could hit silk screen home repeatedly and scroll through the different apps screens but then dead. I'm charging again now, one poster said they replaced the battery, hmm. It's 2006, maybe the thing should be allowed to die, I just paid $60 for it more than a year ago. and I've dropped it several times. I was very happy with Real Player for mp3s, but now I'm a pockettunes fan on my Xplore GSPDA M98, but yeah If you have the secret to fix this palm drop a comment.

guess i was hung up on intellisync that let's me sync calendar memos contacts and tasks palm->yahoo and yahoo->palm, see gtd yahoo
5/17/06
Yeah, i guess alot of writers go through this. You read enough things where you say "I could write better than that." l refer of course to Charles Bremner's Travelblog that I was just checking w/ Quicknews (just 6 days left on my trial.) Maybe I can use Newsisfree.com on my smartphone in 2 weeks. That's my optimistic estimate. This stylus is small. I'm in a bus in Nanjing. It's 9:20 pm on wed. We took the whiteboards out of the classrooms today and had to write on the glass walls. I'm listening to Jerry Garcia. He woke up in the morning dew today @ the Greek Theater 6/14/85 (set 2). So. Will VersaMail accomplish anything as sync-only. What cool things can I do when I'm connected? How much am I missing out not having EVDO? Is there such a network in Nanjing China?
what else is new? i'm banned from ebay. (libelous mention of ebay seller removed) hasn't returned my emails since i paypaled him and he hasn't notified me that the phone has shipped. what's up doc? Ok. I got the phone, haven't got gprs setup yet.
